— V2_ en Het Nieuwe Instituut presenteren op dinsdagavond 9 juli een internationale selectie werken van recent afgestudeerde kunstenaars en designers tijdens Test_Lab: The Graduation Edition 2013. Bezoekers zijn onder meer getuige van een live experiment waarbij een bluetooth-apparaat wordt ingeslikt, kunnen zich verdiepen in designscenario's voor het modificeren van baby’s en zien van dichtbij een kaars die exact een mensenleven brandt.

Jongeren zijn een katalysator voor maatschappelijke verandering en laten ons de toekomst zien door deze vorm te geven en te maken. Aan het einde van elk academisch jaar brengt Test_Lab daarom in haar Graduation Edition een aantal buitengewone projecten bijeen van recent afgestudeerde Europese kunstenaars en designers. Dit jaar werkt V2_ daarin samen met Het Nieuwe Instituut.
- Agatha Haines - Circumventive Organs
Jo Caimo, Andre Castro, Jonas Lund, Agatha Haines, Custom Made Music, Benedikt Gross en Verena Friedrich demonstreren hun werk tijdens Test_Lab: The Graduation Edition 2013 in Het Nieuwe Instituut in Rotterdam. Verwacht naast de eerder genoemde voorbeelden ook een performance die een stem geeft aan Nigeriaanse spam e-mail, een machine die de toekomst van de kunstwereld voorspelt, kaarten die verrassende en sinistere relaties laten zien tussen het sociale en fysieke landschap van Los Angeles, en een concert met bijzondere zelfgemaakte instrumenten.
De boekhandel van nai010 uitgevers in Het Nieuwe Instituut is deze avond open en verkoopt onder meer boeken die in samenwerking met V2_ zijn gemaakt. Het café is geopend tot en met 23.00 uur.
Test_Lab: The Graduation Edition 2013 is een co-productie van V2_ en Het Nieuwe Instituut en is onderdeel van zomerprogramma De Ruïne.

V2_ and The New Institute present this year’s graduation edition of Test_Lab – a special evening showcasing a selection of installations, demonstrations, performances, prototypes and experiments by a new generation of artists and designers graduating this year from European art academies. As is customary at Test_Lab events, you are invited to examine and experience their works hands-on.
This year’s selection includes design scenarios for modified babies and new organs (Agatha Haines, Royal College of Art, London), a performance giving voice to Nigerian spam emails (Andre Castro, Piet Zwart Institute Rotterdam), a database that forecasts the future of the art world (Jonas Lund, Piet Zwart Institute, Rotterdam), surprising relationships between LA's social and physical landscapes (Benedikt Gross, Royal College of Art, London), a live Bluetooth-swallowing experiment Jo Caimo, Royal Academy of Fine Arts, Ghent), a candle that lasts a lifetime (Verena Friedrich, Academy of Media Arts Cologne), and a custom-made concert (Custom Made Music, Utrecht School of the Arts).

Young people are society’s innovators and change agents. They reveal the future to us by creating it. Therefore, at the end of every academic year, Test_Lab takes a close look at a selection of outstanding art and design work created by young artists and designers graduating in emerging arts across Europe.
